Soom App Launch: An Ad-Free Real-Time Air Quality App
Hi team!
It’s vacation season.
For those on vacation, I’m jealous.
I think burnout would decrease significantly if office workers had summer/winter breaks too.
Anyway, once again as a working professional, I utilized my off-hours to launch an app.
Its name, Soom!
The app Soom that we developed is a real-time air quality app.
Simple and cute.
That cloud character was made by my designer friend.
The functionality is just “real-time air quality”, so it’s simple to use as well.
If you’re curious about the development backstory
The most challenging part of this development was “location”.
I thought it would be easy since it’s an app without login, but getting the user’s location turned out to be trickier than expected.
Actually, it takes about 0.1 to 5 seconds to get the location right now.
While trying to figure out a solution for this inconsistent timing…
“At this rate, we might not be able to release the app”
So I just went ahead and released it.

In our defense, our app has no ads.
For the rest of summer,
The real heat is starting.
I’m planning to take a week-long summer vacation next month. Clear my head a bit, brainstorm some new ideas.
